Bird grit is an essential aid to a bird's digestion. As they have no teeth, birds crack the seed with their beaks to remove the husk and then swallow the kernel whole. The grit is held in the bird's crop where it grinds down the seed into a form that can be easily digested. The bird only holds a small quantity of grit in its crop at any one time.

May we suggest that to ensure that your bird always has enough grit, make it available in a separate bowl or feeder.
